چکیده

In this paper, we propose an alternative notion, called weak forgetting, of forgetting a set of predicates in a first-order theory. One important feature of this new notion is that the result of weak forgetting is always first-order expressible. In contrast, this is not the case for the traditional notion of forgetting, called strong forgetting, introduced by Lin and Reiter. As a consequence, these two notions are not exactly the same. Interestingly, we prove that they coincide when the result of strong forgetting is first-order expressible. We also present a representation theorem to characterize weak forgetting from

Forgetting for Answer Set Programs Revisited

A new semantic forgetting for answer set programs (ASP), called SM-forgetting, is proposed in the paper. It distinguishes itself from the others in that it preserves not only skeptical and credulous consequences on unforgotten variables, but also strong equivalence – forgetting same variables in strongly equivalent logic programs has strongly equivalent results. The forgetting presents a positi...

Uniform Interpolation for ALC Revisited

The notion of uniform interpolation for description logic ALC has been introduced in [9]. In this paper, we reformulate the uniform interpolation for ALC from the angle of forgetting and show that it satisfies all desired properties of forgetting. Then we introduce an algorithm for computing the result of forgetting in concept descriptions. We present a detailed proof for the correctness of our...

Inhibitory deficits in older adults: list-method directed forgetting revisited.

In list-method directed forgetting, participants are cued to intentionally forget a previously studied list while remembering a subsequently presented 2nd list. Results from prior research are inconclusive on whether older adults show deficits in this type of task. In 3 experiments, the authors reexamined the issue and compared younger and older adults' responsiveness to the forget cue. Across ...
